Terms of Service
Last updated June 2026. Operated by Borrowhood (a trading name; company to be registered). Contact: [email protected].
1. Who we are
Borrowhood is an online marketplace that connects neighbours who want to lend items with neighbours who want to rent them. We are an intermediary: the rental agreement is between the owner and the renter. We are not the owner, hirer, or insurer of any item.
2. Eligibility
You must be 18+ and resident in the UK. You must verify your identity before renting, lending, or receiving payment.
3. Listings
Owners are responsible for the accuracy of their listings, that items are safe, legal to hire, in working order, and that they have the right to lend them. Photos must show the actual item.
4. Bookings, money and our fee
Renters pay the owner's daily rate plus our service fee. A refundable security deposit is authorised (held), not charged, and released on a clean return — or claimed against if the item is returned damaged, late, or not at all. Payments are processed by Stripe; we do not store card details. We take a commission on each completed rental.
5. Responsibilities of owners and renters
Renters must return items on time and in the condition received. Owners must make items available as agreed. Disputes should first be raised between the parties via the in-app messages; unresolved deposit disputes may be decided by us acting reasonably on the evidence.
6. Damage protection
An optional protection fee may be offered. Its scope and any cover are described at the point of purchase and are subject to separate terms.
7. Prohibited items and conduct
No illegal, recalled, unsafe, or restricted items. No off-platform payments. No abusive behaviour. We may suspend accounts that breach these terms.
8. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, Borrowhood is not liable for loss or damage arising from a rental between users. Nothing limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
